Help Text Facility
Context-sensitive help is available for every MAC-PAC application screen. (Application menus are the only screens that do not have help.) Help text is accessed by pressing the Help key or F1.
When help is requested, a window will appear containing a description for the field where the cursor is positioned. A + in the bottom right-hand corner of this window indicates that additional text is available for that field. The roll keys can be used to display this additional help. A sample help window is shown in the figure below. This window would be displayed if Help was pressed when the cursor was in the Part Number field.

This screen is accessed when the user presses Help when the cursor is located on a field.
From the initial help window, the user can press ENTER to view explanations of the remaining fields on the screen. These explanations are displayed on the entire screen (instead of in a window). The first text displayed will be an introduction to the screen. Immediately after this introduction, a description for the first screen field will be displayed. Field descriptions are shown in the order they appear on the application screen, generally from left to right, top to bottom. The roll keys can be used to view all of the information for the screen. A full-screen help display is shown in the figure below.

Help Screen with Extended Glossary Text Available.
For some fields, additional text is available. This additional text is stored in an area of the help file called the glossary. If glossary text related to a field is available, a one-bye blank line will appear to the left of the help description. None of the fields in Figure 2 have related glossary text. However, several of the fields for DE100S02 are associated with glossary text. The additional fields can be accessed by pressing the Page Down key. Figure 3 shows a portion of the help where extended glossary text is available.
To access the glossary, the user places an X in this field and presses the F11 key. To return from the extended help, the user presses ENTER. The figure below shows the extended glossary for the Part Type field.

Extended Glossary for the Part Type Field.
If you wish, you can modify the help text through the Help Text Maintenance Facility. This facility is selected from the MAC-PAC System Processing Menu. With the maintenance facility, you can change the text describing a field, screen, or glossary so that it better reflects your installation. If you wish, you can mark which lines you have changed, so that it is easier to merge your changes with updates to the standard help file. In addition to changing the standard help, you can create your own glossary text and attach it to any line of the help file. This feature allows you to provide a second level of text easily.
