Translation Steps
Translation Steps
This section describes the eight main translation steps in detail.
Repository Terms Generation (Step 1)
When a translation for a specific language is started, the repository TR100AP is emptied and these steps allow the creation of entries for each English term existing in the sources.
Each record created contains the key field with the English field description, the field length and the field translation.
A code review according to the ITF standards must be previously performed to ensure that this generation process will be completed successfully and the repository terms generation must be run prior to any other steps.
Procedures for Repository Terms Generation
1. Type the command GOACM TRMENU to display the TRMENU.
2. Select option 1 - ITF to access the Screens and Reports Translation menu.
3. Select option 1 - Repository Terms Generation to access the Repository Term Generation command screen (TR100CMD).
4. Enter *all in the Member to Process and in the Module Code to Process fields to perform a generation for the whole application, or Enter *all in the Member to Process field and enter a specific module name in the Module to Process field to perform the generation for just one module, or enter a specific member name in the Member to Process field and blank out the Module to Process field to perform the generation for one member. Then press the Enter key.
5. Check the Exception Report QPRINT to detect any error during the generation and check that new entries have been recorded into the repository TR100AP.
6. Correct the any errors in the related sources according to the exception report and regenerate the terms.
TR100M Conversion to TR100AP (Step 2)
This process allows you to populate the repository TR100AP from existing translation in the TR100M repository of the previous MAC-PAC versions.

Enter *No in the Select Nontranslated Terms field and then press the Enter key.
5. Type option 2 for the selected term to access to the Term Translation by Member screen.
6. Enter the translation and respect the defined length (including leading blanks) and press Enter to post the record to the repository.
Repository Regeneration for a Member (Step 4)
This process allows to regenerate entries into the repository when a member is modified in order to add a new English terms or to change the length of an existing term. The regeneration must be performed for each member impacted by the changes.
Translation Procedures
1. Type the command GOACM TRMENU to display the TRMENU.
2. Select option 1 - ITF to access the Screens and Reports Translation menu.
3. Select option 4 - Repository Regeneration for a member to access the (TR140CMD) command screen.
4. Enter the member name in the member to process field and press the Enter key.
5. Check the new entries generation into the repository TR100AP.
Source Updates from the Repository (Step 5)
a) Generate the Translation Control Report
This process allows to simulate the source translation by printing the screen/report layout in order to check the term translation.
Source Updates Procedures
1. Type the command GOACM TRMENU to display the TRMENU.
2. Select option 1 - ITF to access the Screens and Reports Translation menu.
3. Select option 5 - Source Updates from the repository to access the (TR150CMD) command screen.
4. Enter *all in the Member to Process and in the Module to Process fields to display the terms for the whole application, or enter *all in the Member to Process field and enter a specific module name in the Module to Process field to display the terms for just one module, or enter a specific member name in the Member to Process field and blank out the Module to Process field to display the terms for one member.
Enter *yes in the Control Report Printout field and then press the Enter key.
5. Check the Exception Report and the Control Report printed and correct any translation errors using the Enter/Modify translation conversation.
b) Update Sources for Translation
This process allows to replace the English terms within the source code with the translated equivalents from the repository.
Source Updates Procedures
1. Type the command GOACM TRMENU to display the TRMENU.
2. Select option 1 - ITF to access the Screens and Reports Translation menu.
3. Select option 5 - Source Updates from the Repository to access the (TR150CMD) command screen.

4. Check the status report printed to evaluate the translation effort to perform.
Error Message Maintenance (Step 7)
Translations of error messages are not entered in the same way as translations for the repository terms. Translations for the MAC-PAC Error Messages File (CT120M) and the Financial Message File (FPMSGF) cannot be entered until after the installation of the application software is complete.
Translation of manufacturing and distribution error messages can be entered by selecting option 3 - Error File Maintenance from the TRMENU or can be entered via Design Engineering System Control File Maintenance, which is found on the off-line processing side of the application system. Translated equivalents must be left-justified when entered. When error messages are accessed through System Control File Maintenance, the error codes are also displayed and are input-capable. The user must be cautions of inadvertently making changes in the Error Code field. If a change is accidentally made, the user must re-enter the correct error code.
Translations of messages in the financial message files can be entered using option 4 - Financial Message File Transaction Entry from the TRMENU. The Message Select screen allows the user to enter the Message ID, Message file, and Library of the message to be translated. The user may also specify a Message ID for the second level text of another message; this second level text will be displayed on the Translation Screen in place of the second level text for the displayed message. This enables the user to apply one translation to several messages in the same message file, making only minor modifications as required.
Procedures for Financial Error Message Translation
1. Type the command GOACM TRMENU to display the TRMENU.
2. Select option 4 - Financial Message File Transaction Entry to access the Translation Screen.
3. Enter the actual translation of a financial message on the Translation Screen. Enter this data carefully, as there is no validation. Never change the Message ID on this screen.
4. To apply the changes to the appropriate message file, press F4 (Change Message). Any errors can be corrected later using this same conversation.
5. Because the change is made to the actual message file (that is, the compile object) do not recreate the message files after translations are entered. If this is done, the original messages are placed back in the files, and the translations are lost. Apply error message changes to the financial message files arising from new releases using the following procedures:
a. Delete any changed message identifiers from the appropriate message file using the RMVMSGD command. The Release Memo, which is sent with the software, will list all changed message identifiers.
b. Run the newly released CL programs that add the error messages to the message files (for example, FPCRTMSGF). These programs will add any new or changed error messages in English, but will preserve the remaining messages in their translated format.
c. Enter the translations for the new error messages using option 4 from the TRMENU.
5. The Financial Message File can also be maintained using the function key on the select screen. This allows the user access to any of the function in the WRKMSGD command.
Automatic Translation for “.” And “,” in the Sources (Step 8)
This process allows to replace the character “.” marked with a ‘$’ sign in the sources for translation by the character “,”. This enables the translation of English figures format into the translated figures format used by most of the European countries.
Automatic Translation Procedures
1. Type the command GOACM TRMENU to display the TRMENU.
2. Select option 2 - Automatic Translation for “.” and “,” in the sources to access the CHGPOINTB command screen.
3. Enter *all in the Source File To Be Changed to process the whole application, or enter the source file name. Enter the Library Source and the job queue fields.
4. Check the exception reports to detect if any replacement failed.
