Flexible Report Formats
Several General Ledger and VAT reports can be produced in either of two formats. The reports may be produced using 132 characters per report line or 198 characters per line.
There are two reasons why it may be beneficial to use the 198-character-wide format instead of the 132-character-wide format:
· Your business transactions result in large currency amounts. The General Ledger module allows a maximum of 17 significant digits (999,999,999,999,999.99) for some currency fields and 15 significant digits (9,999,999,999,999.99) for others. In general, businesses approach these upper limits only when they are working in such currencies as the Italian Lira or Japanese Yen, where large amounts are common. If the amounts in your General Ledger accounts exceed 13 significant digits (99,999,999,999.99), you should choose the 198-character-wide format to ensure that all financial information is reported accurately.
· You wish to have additional columns printed on three of the General Ledger reports (listed in the next section) and on the user-defined Analysis Reports.
You can print some reports using the 132-character format and others using the 198-character format.
Please note that (except for reports using an additional column), the 198-character and 132-character formats contain exactly the same information. The 198-character format will be easier to read when large amounts are printed on the report. Also note that the 198-character format can only be used if you have a printer capable of printing 198 characters per line.
