ABC Classification - Purpose
ABC Classification - Purpose
IC250E
The ABC Classification program (IC250E) runs in batch mode. It is used to assign ABC classification values to each part within a warehouse. The Warehouse Balance for each part is updated to reflect this classification as required, i.e., if you requested an update through the online request program. A summary report is printed that shows the total number of parts assigned to each ABC class as well as the totals for each classification rule. You may also request a detail listing for each part.
The program reads the ABC Classification Request file (IC240AL), which contains a record for each warehouse to be processed. For each transaction record, the warehouse balance records for that warehouse are processed sequentially. The Lead Time, Standard Unit Cost, and Dollar Activity/Inventory Dollar Value classification rules are applied and an ABC Analysis Workfile record is created. The program then sequentially processes the workfile to apply the Percent Dollar Activity/Inventory Dollar Value Percent Rule and to assign an overall ABC classification. The Warehouse Balance record is updated to reflect the new ABC class and a detail report record is written if the appropriate flags are set on the transaction record. When processing of the workfile is complete, the summary totals are printed on the summary report.
