Product Structure Maintenance - Purpose
DE120E
The Product Structure Maintenance program (DE120E) maintains the Product Structure file (DE120M). The program operates in four processing modes: Online Update, Asynchronous Processing, Data Entry and Off-line Processing.
In Online Update mode all processing, including low-level code updating, is done Online. Report records are written each time the Product Structure file is updated. These report records provide synchronous points for recovery/restart processing, a record of data base activity by part number (Maintenance Audit Trail report) and a track of transaction entry by reference number (Transaction Register report). Current master file values are displayed for change transactions. After a transaction is entered, any validation errors are highlighted and the appropriate error messages are displayed.
The Asynchronous Processing mode is invoked when a copy bill of material transaction is entered in Online Update mode. Transactions processed asynchronously are listed on the Design Engineering Transaction Register, along with any errors found while processing the transaction. If the transaction causes an update to the Product Structure file, a report record is also written to the audit trail transaction file.
In Data Entry mode transactions are entered and validated Online. Any validation errors are highlighted and the appropriate error messages are displayed. By using a command key, the user may accept the entry of transactions with errors, assuming the error conditions will no longer exist at the time of off-line processing. The transactions are written to a data entry transaction file for later processing in Off-line Processing mode.
In Off-line Processing mode, a logical view of the transaction file (data entry output is processed in posting sequence, in sequence number, part number order. Transactions rejected due to critical errors are listed on the Transaction Register report along with all errors for the transaction. The Product Structure file is updated with valid transactions and report records are written for the Maintenance Audit Trail report and Transaction Register report.
Bill of material comments can be added to each parent part number, component part number, and sequence number combination on the product structure. BOM comment maintenance can be accessed via function key (F18) from the detail screen.
When adding or changing the product structure of a SIR component (issue code 'S' or 'T'), a check is made on the Multiple Location Backflushing flag (Reference File category 436). If this flag is set to 'Y' (Yes), this program sends a warning message if the reference operation number is left blank or set to zeros.
