Basic Window Maintenance Procedures
Adding, Removing, and Resequencing Fields on a Window
To add or remove a field from a window you must change that field's sequencing in the Windows Definition program. The following example adds company and removes order status from the Header Dates window.
Example
Start the program

Step 1.
|
Select the Windows Definition option from the MAC-PAC System Processing Menu.
|
Enter the field set and action code
|
Step 2.
|
Enter the field set name (SOHEADER) and action code (DT) then press Enter. The valid fields for this field set appear. Those with a sequence number are already selected for display on the window, those without sequence numbers will not display. The figure below shows the window without any changes.

Fields on the Sales Order Header Maintenance Field Set (SOHEADER) for the
Date Action Code (DT).
This screen lists all the fields that will display in the window for the action code.
Here the screen is shown with no changes.
Add the company field to the window
|
Step 3.
|
Enter a sequence of 01 to company. This will display the company field on the window immediately before order number.
|
Remove the order status field.
|
Step 4.
|
Remove the sequence number for order status. This will remove it from the window.
|
Redisplay the screen to show your changes
|
Step 5.
|
Press Enter to update your changes. The screen will redisplay with the fields in the new sequence order. The figure below shows the screen with the entered changes.

This screen lists all the fields that will display in the window for the action code.
Here the screen is shown after the changes have been entered.
Exit and save changes

Step 6.
|
Press F22=End Transaction to save your changes and exit the conversation. If you exit using F3=Exit or F10=Function Select your changes will be lost.

Note: To change the order of the fields on a window, resequence the fields in the order you wish to see them display.
Changing a Literal
To change a literal you need to update it in the Field Set Maintenance conversation. The following example updates the Sales Order Header field set (SOHEADER) changing the free on board code text from 'FOB' to 'Free on Board.'

Select the Field Set Maintenance option from the MAC-PAC System Processing Menu.

Enter the field set name

Step 2.
|
Enter the field set name (SOHEADER) then press Enter. The valid fields for this field set will appear. The figure below shows the window without any changes.

Fields on the Sales Order Header Maintenance Field Set (SOHEADER).
This field set holds all valid fields for display in a window for the Sales Order Header.
Here the first page of the set is shown with no changes.
Enter your changes

Step 3.
|
Change the literal 'FOB' to 'Free on Board.'
|
Update your changes and exit.
|
Step 4.
|
Press F22=End Transaction to save your changes and exit the conversation. If you exit using F3=Exit your change will be lost.
|
Note: Changing the field literal is the only basic maintenance you can perform in this conversation. All other maintenance is considered administrative maintenance and should be performed by your system administrator.
Adding a New Window
To add a new window to the system you need to perform two separate steps; defining the new window and selecting the fields to display in that window. The example below creates a new window using the Sales Order Header field set (SOHEADER) for the Multiple Access action code (MX).
Example: Define the Window
Start the program

Step 1.
|
Select the Reference File Maintenance option from the MAC-PAC Main Menu (or from any of the application menus). Enter category 032 and press Enter.

Define the field set and action code combination
|
Step 2.
|
Enter your field set (SOHEADER) and action code (MX) then press Enter. Press Enter to go to the detail screen.
|
Complete the window definition
|
Step 3.
|
Enter the generic window program indicator (WN) as well as information for the following fields:
Window Title
Starting Position
Size
Prompt Description
Display 50 Character Field
When you are finished press Enter to update the category. The figure below shows a complete Reference File category 032 detail screen.

Example: Select the Fields for the Window
Start the program

Step 1.

Select the Window Definition option from the MAC-PAC System Processing menu.
|
Enter your field set and action code
|
Step 2.
|
Enter your field set (SOHEADER) and action code (MX) then press Enter. This will display every field valid for use with your window.

Choose the fields
|
Step 3.
|
Choose the fields you wish to display in your window by giving them a sequence number. If you wish to resequence the fields, use function key F18=Renumber. If you wish to remove a field from displaying, remove its sequence number. When you have selected and sequenced all your fields, press Enter.

Update your changes and exit.

Step 4.

Press F22=End Transaction to save your changes and exit the conversation. If you exit using F3=Exit or F10=Function Select your changes will be lost.

Now your new window is complete. Since this window was created over the Sales Order Header field set, you can access this window from either the Sales Order Header Maintenance or Inquiry conversations. In these conversations, enter the action MX and your new window will display.
