Online Programs With Only One Update
Introduction
The requirements for Recovery Management to function effectively vary for each type of program. Special consideration must be given when modifying MAC-PAC. This section outlines the considerations for each program category, and provides a list of all programs that belong to each category.
Online Programs with Only One Update
Online programs that require only one update per transaction do not require any special processing for Recovery Management. If the system fails while one of these programs is processing, all transactions that have been processed have also completed normally; the integrity of the data base is still maintained. A transaction that is in-flight at the time of the failure would be lost, but would not affect the integrity of the data base.
Files that are being updated should also be journaled. If the system failure requires a roll forward for recovery, the journal will then contain the information that is required to recover the files.
