Backups

The key to efficient recovery management is frequent backups.  The longer you go between backups, the longer it will take to rollforward or rollback journal receivers.  Procedures for backing up the database, and for backing up the journal receivers themselves, is provided in the Operation Procedures chapter of this manual.

Backups need to be performed regularly.  The frequency of the backup will depend on your installation.  However, the following guidelines may be helpful:

·     If you are entering a large number of transactions, back up the data libraries daily.  If you are not entering a large number of transactions, back up the libraries weekly.

·     If you are modifying source, back up the changed source daily and all source code weekly.

·     If you are modifying objects, back up the changed objects daily and all objects weekly.

·     If you are not modifying MAC-PAC, back up the entire system (data libraries, source libraries, object libraries, and other objects) monthly.
