The Order Processing Application Menu.
If you wished to create a custom version of the Order Processing Menu with fewer options, you would need to determine the option number for each option from the Order Processing Menu that you want on the custom menu. For example, if you wanted only the Sales Order Maintenance option on a custom menu, you would first perform a Menu/Option Inquiry for the Order Processing Menu to determine the option number for Sales Order Maintenance. Once this is complete, you could create a new menu through Menu Maintenance and then assign the Sales Order Maintenance option to it through Menu/Option Maintenance. This process is described more fully in the sections on Menus, Options, and Menu/Options.
You may change any or all of the assignments for the Menu Authorization utility shipped with the system. However, before using the utility, you should consider the following issues:
1. What online conversations does each user in the organization need to access? Both MAC-PAC and non-MAC-PAC options can be assigned to a menu through the Menu Authorization utility. Each control program (CLP) should be assigned to a separate option.
2. How should options be grouped into menus? How many different menus should there be in the system? You may define all of the options in the system on one menu and restrict access to options through user authority assignments. However, if you have many options performing many distinct business functions, you may want to retain a modular menu structure for reasons of system security.
3. How should security be set up? What users should be assigned as menu security officers? To set up an effective security system, you need to resolve these questions as you determine the number of menus and options.
The following sections of the overview give more information on each of these key aspects of Menu Authorization.
