Use
The mass change feature can be used to change the parent/component relationship in three ways:
· An existing component can be completely replaced by a new component. The new component has exactly the same effectivity dates as the original.
· An existing component can be taken out of effect on a specified date and a new component brought into effect in its place.
· The Quantity Per relationship between parent and component can be modified.
Completely Replacing an Existing Component. To completely replace an existing component with a new component, the user must leave two fields blank on the mass change transaction screen:
· Engineering Change Order - In
· Engineering Effectivity Date - In
Leaving the effectivity fields blank causes two transactions to be written for every product structure containing the component:
· The original parent/component record is deleted
· A new parent/component record is added. This record is identical to the original record except:
· It contains the new component.
· The quantity of component per parent can be changed to reflect differences between the original and replacement part.
This option is only available when Reference File category C12 (ECO Update Option) is not equal to 1 (ECO Required - Date System Maintained). This is because an Engineering Change Order - In is required when category C12 = 1.
Bringing a New Component into Effect. This option allows you to track product structure changes through effectivity change order numbers and effectivity dates. To use this option, the user must enter an engineering change order number or engineering effectivity date. Only one of the fields must be entered because the other will be defaulted from the Engineering Change Order File. MAC-PAC uses the in-effectivity date specified (or defaulted) to determine the periods when the original component and the new component will be used. The Considerations section contains a detailed explanation of this processing.
Changing the Quantity Per. When one component is being replaced by another, the Quantity Conversion field on the mass change transaction is used to reflect differences in quantities between the two components. This field can also be used to change the Quantity Per field for a component without replacing it. To change only the Quantity Per for a component, the user would:
· Enter the same part number in the Component Part to be Replaced field and the Component Part to be Introduced field.
· Enter a number in the Quantity Conversion field. The value in this field is multiplied by the existing Quantity Per to give the new Quantity Per.
