Translating Documents: Step-by-Step

Use the following steps when defining a new language and translating documents for your customers or vendors:

1.    Run all Multi-Language documents once to initialize the Literal Translation File (CF270E).  The documents will be printed in the base language.  Request them as usual through the OP, PO, and AR menus respectively.  Each document only need to be run once to initialize this file.  You may use any customer or vendor for this run.

2.   Set up the Reference File category D92 - Language Code with the necessary base and secondary language codes for your system.  The base language record should have a blank key.  This allows your base language customers and vendors to have a blank language code.  This blank record is required even if you do not use the multi-language documents feature.  The secondary languages records should have alphanumeric keys no more than two digits in length.

3.   Enter the new language code on the customer or vendor master file (ARCUSTP or APMASTP respectively).  Every customer or vendor that has this language code will have their documents printed in this new language.

4.    Translate the part descriptions for all parts into your new language using the Part Master Translation Program (CF260E) found on the MAC-PAC Processing Menu.  Be sure to translate the part in every plant to be used by these documents.

5.    Use the Literal Translation Maintenance program (CF270E) found on the Processing Menu to initialize the Literal Translation File (CF270M).  Use the Add a New Language option for this function.  It will submit a batch job initializing the file.  This is necessary every time you add a new language.

6.    Translate the necessary document literals for each document using the Literal Translation Maintenance Program (CF270E) found on the MAC-PAC Processing Menu.

7.    Translate the Reference File category descriptions into your new language using the Reference File Category Maintenance program (CF110E) found on the MAC-PAC Processing Menu.

8.   Your multi-languages documents will automatically print out in the language specified on the customer or vendor master file.
