KANBAN Message Segment Purposes

Each KANBAN message is composed of segments, with each segment corresponding to a specific type of information.  The different KANBAN message segments are described below:

MID -- Message Identification

A mandatory, single-occurrence segment that contains the unique number of this delivery request message and the date and time of its generation.  This segment appears once per delivery request, and corresponds to all the associated delivery request releases.

KDE -- KANBAN Card

This segment provides packaging information for the items to be delivered.

ARD -- Article Details

This segment identifies the item to be delivered to the delivery point identified in the CSG segment.  This segment will be repeated as needed to identify all of the items to be delivered to the delivery point in the previous CSG segment.  All ARD segments relate to the most recent CSG segment.

The blanket order contract applicable to this ship-to customer is also determined from the information on this segment.  This is when you know which of your manufacturing plants this order will be filled from.

BDT -- Buyer Details

This segment occurs once per delivery request and identifies the issuer of this request.

CDT -- Vendor Details

A mandatory, single-occurrence segment that contains the identification of the seller, which is your company.

CSG -- Consignee Details

This segment  identifies the delivery point to which the requested items are to be shipped.  This segment will be repeated as needed to identify all of the delivery points for which the issuer of this KANBAN message is requesting items to be shipped. This segment is used to provide delivery location details.  All segments below the CSG segment relate to this consignee.

FTX -- Free Text

This segment contains up to three lines of comments for the KANBAN message.
