Computer Integrated Distribution Overview

Computer Integrated Distribution (CID) is the concept of MAC-PAC orders being received from a customer, sourced from a remote site, and then shipped from the remote site back to the sales office or directly to the end customer.  Additionally, MAC-PAC supports the automatic creation of a link between purchase orders and sales orders to help track these transactions.  Furthermore, businesses at multiple sites can pass these basic business documents between every site and to customers/vendors using electronic data interchange technology (when used in conjunction with the EDI module).

There are four components of computer integrated distribution:

·     Direct Ship Processing

·     Remote Sourcing

·     Direct Distribution

·     Electronic Data Interchange

Each component can be used as a stand-alone feature to provide a unique piece of distribution functionality or it can be used with one or more of the other pieces of CID.  Furthermore, none of the individual CID pieces serve as a prerequisite for the other functions.
