Job Control Flag
Job Control Flag
Job control processing is performed by part rather than for the system as a whole. This approach allows you to mix job-controlled parts with parts that are not controlled by job. It means that you must specify for each part whether or not it is used for make-to-order production. The Job Control Flag field on the Part Master File is used for this purpose. (The Part Master File is maintained within Design Engineering.)
When the flag indicates the part is job controlled, inventory balances existing in job or job group locations are taken into account when figuring on-hand inventory by job, and supply is planned as required. If the flag does not indicate job control, the part inventory balances across all locations are used for calculating on-hand inventory.
The job control flag for a part cannot be changed from Y to N until no transaction activity exists for the part and all inventory balances for it have been deleted. When the job control flag for the part is changed from N to Y, all existing inventory balances for the part are assigned to common stock. These balances can be allocated to jobs through stock transfer transactions within the Inventory Control module.
