The Engineering Change Order Date Update category indicates what type of validation is performed on the ECO In, ECO Out, Effectivity In, and Effectivity Out fields in Product Structure Maintenance (DE120E). It also indicates whether all product structure links affected by an engineering change order (ECO) are modified when the ECO Effectivity Date is modified in the ECO File Maintenance conversation (DE160E).
This category has a blank key to allow only one record.
After the initial values are entered into this category, the category cannot be deleted.

ECO DATE UPDATE OPTION
Required. Defines validation of ECO and Effectivity In and Out dates in Product Structure Maintenance (DE120E) and the Date Update Capability in ECO File Maintenance (DE160E). Valid values are:
1- An ECO is required in Product Structure Maintenance and the effectivity dates are not user maintainable. Effectivity date changes made through ECO Maintenance will be reflected on all product structures using the changed ECO.
2- The ECO is not required in Product Structure Maintenance. If the ECO is entered, the effectivity date is defaulted from the ECO Master File (DE160M) and is maintained by ECO Maintenance. The effectivity date may be entered if the ECO is blank.
However, the effectivity date will not be maintained by ECO Maintenance in this case because the date is not related to an ECO.
3- The ECO and effectivity date are both optional in Product Structure Maintenance. The effectivity date will only be defaulted from the ECO Master File if the effectivity date is left blank and a valid ECO is entered. The effectivity date on the product structure is not maintained by ECO File Maintenance.
This category is referenced by the Document Structure Maintenance program to determine the appropriate validation for the ECO number and date. There is therefore a direct correlation between the effectivity date (found in Document Structure Maintenance screens) and the setup of the ECO on Reference File category C12.
