The Category Security category defines the Reference File categories that each operator is authorized to maintain and inquire into.
There are three types of records in this category: global, category, and operator. This is not a required category. If no records exist in this category, all operators will be authorized to all Reference File categories in the system. Each time an operator requests a category, the appropriate record of each type is accessed to determine authority. If one or three records exist, the operator is not authorized. Zero or two existing means the operator is authorized. For example, when OPERATOR 1 attempts to maintain category 002, the following three records are accessed.
RECORD TYPE CATEGORY OPERATOR
Global blank blank
Category 002 blank
Operator 002 OPERATOR 1
Before reading any records, all users are authorized to maintain all categories. After reading the global record, no user is authorized to maintain any category. After reading the category 002 record, all users are authorized to maintain category 002, but cannot maintain any other category. After reading the operator 002 OPERATOR 1 record, OPERATOR 1 is not authorized to maintain category 002, but all other users can maintain category 002.
CATEGORY IDENTIFICATION
Required (positions 1-3). The three-position ID of the Reference File category to be accessed.
OPERATOR
Required (positions 4-13). The ten-position code associated with the operator maintaining this category record.
