Unit of Measure Code
Unit of Measure Code
A two-position alphanumeric code that defines the unit in which statistical amounts are recorded. Unit of measure codes are defined on Reference File category 005.
The stockkeeping unit of measure defines the units at which the inventory balance for an item is carried. All production transactions, issues to manufacturing orders, and receipts from manufacturing orders are entered in stockkeeping units. The inventory planning is performed and reported in stockkeeping units, as are all of the stock status and shortage reports and inquiries. Purchase order receipts and sales order shipments may be entered in purchasing or selling units. They will be converted from these units to stockkeeping units automatically.
Valid units of measure are defined on Reference File category 005. Conversion rates from one unit to another are defined on Reference File category 006. The stockkeeping unit of measure for an item is defined on the Part Master File.
