Revision Level

May be used to record the level of engineering change that is in effect for a part.  The revision level appears on engineering reports and inquiries.  The current revision level for a part is stored on the Part Master File.  Information about all previous and future revision levels (as well as the current level) are stored on the Revision Level File.

There are three ways to update revision levels for a part:

  • Revision Level Maintenance.  You can add, change, or delete revision levels manually.  Revision levels may be added for an existing part as long as the revision number and effectivity date fall sequentially between the other revision levels for that part.  An existing level can be changed or deleted as long as it is not the current revision level for the part.  A future revision level cannot be deleted if flow authorizations are associated with it.  The net change flag will be set if a future revision is added or deleted, or if the effectivity date changes.
  • Revision Level Generation.  Revision levels are created automatically for the part, based on the engineering change orders in the product structure file.  All ECO activity for one day equates to one revision level.  This program is invoked automatically as part of the requirements planning generation process.  The actual revision levels are assigned sequentially, beginning with the current revision level on the Part Master File.  If the revision level already exists on the Revision Level File, it is updated with the new information.  Any manually created revision levels are assigned new level numbers to fit in date sequence with the automatically created levels.
  • Revision Level Daily Update.  This conversation reads the Revision Level File to determine what revision levels will become effective on the next shop date.  The Part Master File is updated with the new revision level and effectivity date.  The previous level is updated as history on the Revision Level File.
