Lot Number

Lots are used to identify items that were manufactured at the same time or purchased from the same vendor and have identical characteristics.  Lot control allows you to track an item from when it is received into inventory until it is shipped to a customer.  You may also record an expiration date and a vendor lot number for each lot.

If you wish to make your environment lot controlled, set the Lot Control option on the System Control File to Yes.  (The System Control File is maintained through the Application System Control Maintenance option on the Material Planning Menu.)

To make an item lot controlled, set the Lot Control Option on the Part Master Maintenance Control screen to Yes.  If the item is lot controlled, you must enter a lot number whenever inventory is received or issued for the item.  Inventory balances are displayed by lot for lot-controlled items.  In addition, you can reserve inventory by lot during order entry.

This field also displays the vendor's lot number used when the item was shipped.  This field should display a lot number if the item is lot-controlled.  This field is for information purposes only; there is no validation.
