Customer Company/Location

Customer information can be defined at three levels:

  • Global.  Each customer number is unique throughout the system.
  • Company.  Each customer number is unique within a company.
  • Location.  Each customer number is unique within a company/location.

The level at which customer information is defined is the same as the currency level.  This level is defined on Reference File category 133.  When customers are defined at a level other than global, the corresponding company or company/location must be entered whenever a customer number is specified.

Receivables balances (such as balance due and past due amount) are carried on the customer record.  These balances reflect the level at which the customer is defined.  For example, if customers are defined at the company level, the receivables balance for the customer represents activity from all locations within the company.  A separate record is maintained for each company with which the customer transacts.  Each company then sends its own statements and manages its own receivables.
