Component
Component
A component is any part that is used to manufacture another part. Any part type can be used as a component except for non-standard and bundled/kitted. The components of a part are generally specified through the Product Structure Maintenance conversations in Design Engineering. The components of a bundled/kitted part are specified in Bundle Master Maintenance within Order Processing.
Components of planning parts have a slightly different interpretation. A planning part is a product family or group used for generating forecast of market demand. The components of a planning part are actually the end items that belong to the group. The quantity per relationship between the parent and component indicates how demand for the product group should be allocated to the individual items.
