Active/Inactive Flag

Indicates whether the entity (part, workcenter, bundle, customer, matrix, warehouse balance, etc.) is active or inactive. 

Transactions cannot be entered for inactive entities.  In general, an entity cannot be deactivated if it is being used.  For example, a part cannot be deactivated if manufacturing orders or purchase orders exist for the part.  Inactive entities will be physically deleted from their respective files the next time the file is purged/reorganized.
