Converting Parts from MRP to JIT Production >
Preliminary Steps
Preliminary Steps
Before converting a part from MRP to JIT production, several steps must be performed.
Production Center Definition
If the part will be produced in a new production center, the production center must be defined through the Production Center Maintenance conversation. Necessary fields include the production center description, production center family, capacity, capacity unit of measure, maintenance horizon days, and production center tolerance.
Part/Production Center Relationship Definition
If a part will be scheduled in multiple production centers, these relationships may be defined for the alternative production centers and parts; however, they are not necessary. If a relationship is not defined for the alternative cell and part, the part's main production center information will be used.
Container Definition
If a container will be used for the part, it must be defined through the Container Master Maintenance conversation in the Design Engineering module. Important information includes standard container quantity and container dimensions.
Flow Interval Definition
Flow intervals must be defined for all JIT-produced parts before production begins. Using the Flow Generation option on the Just-in-Time Menu, the user may specify weekly, monthly, or user-defined flow intervals.
Review
Before conversion, the part routing must be reviewed. Routings for JIT and MRP parts are used differently in calculating cost and load for rough-cut capacity planning.
