Prioritizing Inventory

The Lot Priority Maintenance conversation (IC165E) allows you to prioritize multiple location records of lot-controlled and non-lot-controlled parts, thus allowing you to control the order in which inventory is picked for manufacturing orders.  When you prioritize the records, you determine which record(s) are selected by the picking programs to fill an order.  Neither the sales order picking process nor the Synchro module are impacted by lot prioritizing.

In this conversation, you can:

·     Assign the same priority code to all multiple location records for a part within a specific company/warehouse (the priority code defaults from the Function Select screen (IC165S01)) that are currently blank.

·     Manually assign priority codes on the Detail screen.

·     Change priority codes on the Detail screen.

When the Picking List Maintenance Program (IC210E) and the Shop Paperwork Report Program (IC580E) select parts to fill an order, the programs use the following files:  the Multiple Location File by Lot FIFO Date Sequence (IC130ML1) for non-job-controlled parts; the Multiple Location File by Job Number (IC130L13) for job-controlled parts; and the Multiple Location File by Company/Warehouse/Part/Lot/Job/Location (IC130L19) for configured parts.  Sorting occurs in each of the logical files as follows:

The AS/400 uses the EBCDIC collating sequence to determine the value of blanks, symbols, letters, and numbers.  These characters are valid in the Priority Code field.  The following table lists the EBCDIC symbols, letters, and numbers, in order of value.  Note:  Although EBCDIC permits lowercased letters, they have not been listed because you may not enter lowercased letters in MAC-PAC fields.

     The EBCDIC Collating Sequence.

As you can see, blanks have the lowest value.  This means that any record with a priority code of blanks will always be selected before any other record.  If two or more records have identical priority codes, the picking programs will use the next sorting criteria (depending on the part type) to choose among the records.

For example, the following screen sample shows five records for the part Aspirin sequenced by priority code.  They are displayed in the order that they would be picked.

for the part Aspirin are displayed in order of priority.

You may prioritize multiple location records for non-lot-controlled parts—for example, if you wanted the picking programs to select inventory from specific locations.  For non-lot-controlled parts, the Lot FIFO Date field is protected on the Detail screen.
