Reference File

Unit of measure codes are defined on Reference File category 005.  Category 006 stores standard factors for converting from one unit to another.  When you specify a purchasing or selling unit of measure for an item that is different than its stockkeeping unit of measure, Design Engineering checks to see if a conversion factor exists on category 006 and, if so, copies it to the Description screen.  You can override this default conversion factor.  For example, you might store items individually but sell them in standard size boxes.  A box normally contains 20 items.  For a few items, however, you pack 25 items in a box.  You could define a box-to-each conversion factor of 20 on the Reference File.  You could then override this default when defining the stockkeeping-to-selling unit of measure on the Part Master Maintenance Description screen.
