Define Plants, Distribution Warehouses, and Stock Locations
Define Plants, Distribution Warehouses, and Stock Locations
The following procedures need to be performed for each company within the corporation.
Note: Before performing these steps, make sure that you have defined the calendar codes on Reference File category C13. (See the Define Calendars procedure for more information.)
1. Determine the hierarchy to be used for manufacturing and inventory reporting. The Company Structure Worksheet in Appendix A will help you identify and organize this information.
a. List all of the manufacturing and distribution warehouses belonging to the company, and identify which plant should be associated with each of them.
Note: Each manufacturing warehouse must be assigned to its own plant. In addition, each distribution warehouse can be associated with only one plant; if a warehouse distributes parts from two different plants, you will have to assign the warehouse to one plant and define all parts from the other plant as transfer parts.
b. For each manufacturing and distribution warehouse, determine the stocking locations.
c. Determine a three-digit code for each plant, manufacturing warehouse, and distribution warehouse. For each stocking location, determine a seven-digit, alphanumeric code. For each manufacturing and distribution warehouse you must identify one of the locations as a primary stocking location.
d. For each warehouse, determine the values of the Available for Planning flag (all warehouses) and Sales Order Planning flag (manufacturing warehouses).
2. Prepare source documents.
3. Make sure that you are authorized to modify information for the manufacturing and distribution warehouses. Authority is granted on Reference File category 409. Note that if no records exist on category 409, all users are allowed to maintain information for all company/warehouses.
4. Define each plant by defining the manufacturing warehouse associated with that plant. Use the Plant/Warehouse Description conversation.
a. When prompted for the company and warehouse, enter the three-digit codes identifying the company and manufacturing warehouse.
b. Enter information on the Description, Manufacturing, and Cycle Count screens:
· On the description screen, enter a Y in the Manufacturing Site field.
· On the description screen, enter the plant's three-digit code in the Plant field.
· On the Description screen, enter the primary stocking location for the manufacturing warehouse.
5. For each plant, define the distribution warehouses using the Plant/Warehouse Description menu option.
a. When prompted, enter the three-digit codes for the company and distribution warehouse.
b. Enter information on the Description, Manufacturing, and Cycle Count screens:
· On the description screen, enter an N in the Manufacturing Site field.
· On the description screen, enter the plant's three-digit code in the Plant field. This plant code must have already been assigned to one manufacturing warehouse.
· On the description screen, enter the primary stock location for the warehouse.
6. Define inventory locations within each warehouse.
Note: When you defined each plant and warehouse, you entered a code for its primary stocking location. At that time, MAC-PAC created definition records for those locations. Therefore, you should perform this step only for locations that were not defined as primary locations.
a. Select the Location Maintenance menu option.
b. Enter the three-digit codes for the company and warehouse, and the seven-digit code for the location.
