Enter Product Structure Comments

You can enter comments for each component in a product structure.  These comments can be entered through the Product Structure Maintenance conversation or the Multi-line Product Structure Maintenance conversation.  In general, you should use the multi-line conversation when you are entering comments for several components in the same parent's product structure.

Perform one of the following sets of steps:

1.   Product Structure Maintenance conversation:

a.   Use the bill of material inquiries to determine the sequence number of the component for which you will be entering comments.

b.   Select Product Structure Maintenance menu option.

c.   Enter the parent's part number, the component's sequence number, and the component's part number on the Function Select screen.  Specify the maintenance code for Addition (if the parent/component relationship does not already exist) or Change.

d.   On the detail screen, press F18 to access the comments screen.

e.   Refer to the Enter Part Comments procedure for information about how to add, change, delete, and rearrange comment lines.

To copy comments from another product structure, enter the structure's parent part number, component part number, and sequence number at the top of the screen.  Press F8.  All comments for the specified parent/component relationship will be copied behind the current comments.

f.    When you have entered all of the comments for this component, press F19 to update the file with your comments and return to the detail screen.

g.   From the detail screen, press ENTER to update the file with your changes or press F10 to return to the Function Select screen.

2.   Multi-Line Product Structure Maintenance:

a.   Select Multi-Line Product Structure Maintenance from the Design Engineering Menu.

b.   Enter the parent's part number and the effectivity date on the Function Select screen.

c.   On the workline, type the sequence number and part number of the part for which you will be adding comments.  Press F5 to display the detail screen for this component.

d.   From the detail screen, press F18 to access the comments screen.

e.   Refer to the Enter Part Comments procedure for information about how to add, change, delete, and rearrange comment lines and how to copy comments from another product structure.

To copy comments from another product structure, enter the structure's parent part number, component part number, and sequence number at the top of the screen.  Press F8.  All comments for the specified parent/component relationship will be copied behind the current comments.

f.    When you have entered all of the comments for this component, press F19 to update the file with your comments and return to the detail screen.

g.   Press ENTER to return to the multi-line screen from the detail screen.

h.   When you are done entering comments for this product structure, press F3 to exit the multi-line screen.
