Create a Product Structure
Create a Product Structure
A product structure should be created for every manufactured and build-thru part. They can also be created for planning, transfer, purchased, and raw material parts.
Prerequisites
Before you begin defining product structures, make sure that all parent and component parts have been defined using the Part Master Maintenance conversation within Design Engineering.
Procedures
1. Determine all components required to make the end item and their quantities.
2. Prepare source documents.
3. Select the Multi-Line Product Structure menu option and enter the number of the parent part whose product structure you wish to create.
4. To add a line:
a. On the workline (displayed at the bottom of the screen), type the following information.
· Sequence number, indicating where the component should be inserted
· Part number of the component
· A (to add the component)
Blank fields will be displayed at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to enter information for the component.
b. Enter the information on the displayed line or press F4 to go to the detail screen.
c. Press ENTER.
5. To change the information for a component:
a. On the workline, type the sequence number and part number of the line you wish to change.
b. Type a C (to change the information). The values currently defined for the part will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
c. Type over any of the displayed information or press F4 to go to the detail screen.
d. Press ENTER.
6. To delete a component:
a. On the workline, type the sequence number and part number of the line you wish to delete.
b. Type a D (to delete the information).
c. Press ENTER.
7. Once the product structure has been defined, print the bill of material (using the Bill of Material Retrieval Request Report Request conversation) or view the Bill of Material Single-Level Explosion inquiry to verify that the information has been entered correctly.
8. Generate the Data Base Audit Report to make sure that a product structure has been defined for each manufactured part.
a. Select the Data Base Audit Report option.
b. Type an X in the Bill of Matl-Mfg field.
Continuation Steps in other Modules
1. After creating a product structure, you should create a routing for each manufactured part in the Manufacturing Engineering module.
