Splitting and Offsetting Delivery Requests

Delivery Requests that contain releases by period must be split.  All releases must be offset, taking into account the picking lead times associated with the transportation lead time defined on the endorsement, the customer delivery date, and the shipping calendar to ensure that picking and shipping are scheduled accurately.

The system uses the splitting rules defined for the item/delivery point relationship.  They indicate the possible delivery dates and allow splitting of the requested quantities according to the customer designated splitting numbers.

If a delivery date falls upon a date that has been designated as an exception date for that customer combination, the system applies the quantities to the other working days of the week.

All delivery request releases, regardless of whether they are planned or confirmed are offset.  Confirmed releases are offset for all request periods, planned orders are offset up to the fine splitting horizon defined on Reference File category G09 (Synchro Warehouse Parameters), and the remaining periods are grouped to the first date following the fine splitting horizon.  OPEL has its own splitting rules; please refer to the OPEL documentation for more information.

There are three key dates for an offset release:

·     The delivery date:  date the order needs to arrive at the customer location

·     The shipment date:  date the order needs to be shipped

·     The preparation date:  date the order should start the pick and pack process

The processing steps are as follows:

·     Checking of the ship-to customer exception dates

·     Calculation of the shipping date according to:

-     Transportation lead time for the item/delivery point defined on the endorsement

-     Delivery due date

·     Calculation of the preparation start date, according to the preparation lead time retrieved from the endorsement.

The offset releases designate the date on which the customer is to receive these items (delivery date).  If there is lead time, either preparation lead time or transportation lead time (both defined on the valid endorsement for this item/delivery point), the system will propose the preparation and shipping dates to reflect the lead times.
