Simplified Packaging Unit for Small Items

This label corresponds to the unit in which a small item is packaged after manufacturing.  In VDA mode, you cannot create this label type.

Different information is displayed on each of the five types of labels.

Packaging unit label/simplified packaging units contain:

·     Customer item number and description

·     Quantity in ordering units

·     MAC-PAC item number and description

·     Label number

However, the simplified packaging unit (Type 5) contains less information than the packaging unit (Type 1).

Handling unit labels/simplified handling unit labels:

·     Customer item number and description

·     Quantity in ordering units for all of the associated packaging units (handling unit labels only)

·     Shipping destination (delivery point, or consolidation point) name and address

·     MAC-PAC item number and description

·     Label number

Mixed handling unit labels:

·     Vendor identification

·     Ship-to customer name and address

·     Label number

If the endorsement specifies, the labels can contain:

The security stamp symbol.  In Europe, this symbol is mandatory if the product is declared a safety part.

The vendor quality assurance (VQA) symbol (used in ODETTE mode).  In Europe, this symbol is mandatory if the product has a quality assurance contract.

Note:    Labels are required for all lot-controlled items.  They are optional for non-lot- controlled items.  Labels are generated by the system during the shipping proposal generation batch program for all lot-controlled items, except for those items within a held lot.

Stock locations and lot numbers are assigned on a FIFO basis.  When no stock is available, the system prints a warning on the shipping proposal.  The Label Maintenance conversation allows you to generate labels with lot numbers when needed.

To create labels for non-lot-controlled items, you must enter the Label Maintenance conversation and enter the corresponding shipping proposal number.  The information will default.

In manufacturing you can create labels at the end of the assembly line to label selected items during the packaging process without associating them to a specific customer or shipping proposal.  The authorized types are 1 or 5 (packaging unit label) and 3 (simplified handling unit label).

When generating labels, you do not have to enter the shipment number.  After entering the item number and the quantity, the system displays the labels generation detail screen asking for the appropriate label number for the selected quantity.

When a label is not associated to a shipping proposal (end of assembly line label), the system will search the default endorsement for that item.  The endorsement contains the information needed by the type 1 or 5 and type 3 labels.  If the system does not find a default relationship, it will use the first one found for the item.

This concept is important when the same items (with the same MAC-PAC item number) are sold to several manufacturers who may have their own number for the item:  a label with the customer item number of a customer cannot be shipped to another customer.

Mixed handling units are pallets that contain different items.  Because there are different items, type four labels do not indicate item or quantities.  However, it displays the delivery point and the ship-to customer's name and address.

Generation of mixed handling unit labels is similar to the generation of standard handling unit labels.  You must enter the packaging unit labels number of the individual packages that make up this mixed handling label.

Associating packaging units with mixed handling units allows you to generate mixed pallets with items from different shipping lists, but ultimately being shipped to the same delivery point.  This would allows you to group the items from different shipping lists on the same pallet, if they are going to the same delivery point.
