Serial Number Makeup
Serial numbers can be up to 20 characters long. They may contain both numeric and alphanumeric characters. Reference File category G78 allows you to specify which positions will be numeric. All numeric positions must be grouped together. For example, you may define a 5 digit serial number as ANNNA, or AANNN, but not NNAAN.
The Serial Number Assignment Window has a serial number generation feature that allows you to specify a serial number's alphanumerics as well as the total you wish to generate. The illustration below shows the serial number assignment window as called from Shipping and Billing conversation. The alphanumerics, SN and CRN will be the same for every serial number. The numeric positions, 3 through 6, are incremented.
