Selling Company/Warehouse

The selling company/warehouse is the warehouse from which each order line will be sourced if there is not a Customer Primary Warehouse on the ship-to customer or if a different warehouse is specifically requested.

In Sales Order Maintenance and Quote Order Maintenance (order add only), Postbilling and Debit/Credit Memo Entry, and Multi-line Inventory Reservation, this selling company/warehouse defaults to the value for the workstation, but may be overridden by the operator.

Each line on an order may be sourced from any warehouse within the selling company.  If a warehouse is not specified for a line, the selling company/warehouse is assumed unless there is a Customer Primary Warehouse on the ship-to customer.  Again, this reduces the data which must be entered on each line.

It is presumed that the majority of lines on an order will be sourced from the selling company/warehouse, but there is no restriction to do so.

Considerations

The selling company/warehouse is not specifically entered in some conversations.  For example, the Sales Order Maintenance conversation uses the selling company/warehouse already contained on the sales order header record when an order is being changed or closed.

The selling company/warehouse is also used to determine the General Ledger company and location for accounting purposes.  All accounts receivable and sales journal entries are generated based on the selling company/warehouse.

An order line can only be sourced from a company/warehouse if the warehouse balance record exists for the part being ordered, and if the pricing data for the part has been established.

An optional security feature allows control over which users can enter transactions against a given company/warehouse.  If used, this feature would allow management to control which operators can enter orders or source lines from a specific company/warehouse.
