Re-allocating Inventory Using Multi-line Inventory Reservation
Re-allocating Inventory Using Multi-line Inventory Reservation
The Multi-line Inventory Reservation conversations enables you to review and change inventory allocated or reserved to sales orders. This conversation displays sales order lines for a specified part and allows you to change the reserved quantity among the lines displayed. You can also change the promised ship date for each line.
The conversation also displays transfer order lines for the specified part and allows you to access the Transfer Order Maintenance conversation using a command key to maintain a transfer order line.
Multi-line Display Options
When you use multi-line inventory reservation, you determine the sequence in which order lines are displayed -- by promised ship date or backorder priority in either ascending or descending order. This feature provides you with flexibility to view order lines by a chosen priority. For example, if you want to view order lines that have a higher priority, you can list them by promised ship date in ascending order. To then view less critical order lines from which to pull inventory, you can list lines by promised ship date in descending order.
To view a list of order lines for a specific period, you can define a horizon date. Only order lines with promised ship dates that fall within the horizon date will be displayed. If you do not enter a horizon date and your warehouse uses the inventory reservation window, order lines with promised ship dates within the window will be displayed. Otherwise, if you do not enter a horizon date, all order lines for the part will be displayed.
Multi-line inventory reservation allows you to display order line information in more detail by accessing the Sales Order Inquiry and Transfer Order Inquiry conversations by using command keys.
Maintaining Inventory Reservation for Sales Orders
Multi-line inventory reservation allows you to change the promised ship date and reserved quantity on sales order lines; however, only certain actions can be taken with these fields depending on the order line type (parent or child), line and shipment statuses, and nature of the change.
The following table summarizes the changes you can make:
|
Change Promised Ship Date Only
|
Change Reserved Quantity Only
|
|
Parent line
Line status = open
(If the shipment status is X or C, you cannot change the line.)
|
A.
If within the inventory reservation window, you can change the date.
If the date was inside the window and you change to outside, the quantity is unreserved.
If the date was outside the window and you change to inside, the system will attempt to reserve the quantity.
|
B.
You can adjust the reserved quantity.
|
C.
You can change both the promised ship date and the reserved quantity.
|
Parent line
Line status = released
(You want to increase inventory.)
|
If the shipment status is R and the date is inside the window, the date can be changed to inside or outside the window.
If the shipment status is C or X, the date cannot be changed unless you increase the reserved quantity. The date cannot be changed by itself.
|
For the inventory increase, the system generates a backorder release for the full backordered quantity and reserves what is requested. The shipment status is not checked because a release is being created.
|
D.
For the inventory increase, the system generate a backorder release for the full backordered quantity with the promised ship date requested and reserves what is requested. If a backorder release is not created, the promised ship date change will not be reflected. The shipment status is not relevant.
|
Parent line
Line status = released
(You want to decrease inventory.)
|
If the shipment status is R, see A above.
If the shipment status is C or X, the date cannot be changed unless you increase the reserved quantity. The date cannot be changed by itself.
|
If the shipment status is R, you can reduce the reserved quantity. If the shipment status is C or X, the system cannot decrease reserved inventory when the shipment is confirmed.
|
If the shipment status is R, you can reduce the reserved quantity and change the promised ship date. If the shipment status is C or X, the system cannot decrease reserved inventory when the shipment is confirmed.
|
Parent line
Line status = partially shipped
|
You can change the date. There is no impact on inventory because none has been reserved. Shipment status is not relevant. The system does not call control totals or update the shipment flag on the sales order line.
|
You can change the quantity. For an increase, the system generates a backorder release for the full backordered quantity and reserves what is requested. You cannot decrease the quantity because partially shipped lines never have inventory reserved to them. All shipment statuses are allowed.
|
See D.
|
Child line
Line status = open
(If the shipment status is X or C, you cannot change the line.)
|
See A.
|
See B.
|
See C.
|
Child line
Line status = released
(You want to increase inventory.)
|
If the shipment status is R and the date is inside the window, the date can be changed to inside or outside the window.
For shipment statuses of C and X, the line is protected.
|
If the shipment status is R, you can increase the reserved quantity. If the shipment status is C or X, the line is protected.
|
If the shipment status is R, you can change both the promised ship date and reserved quantity. If the shipment status is C or X, the line is protected.
|
Child line
Line status = released
(You want to decrease inventory.)
|
If the shipment status is R and the date is inside the window, the date can be changed to inside or outside the window.
For shipment statuses of C and X, the line is protected.
|
If the shipment status is R, you can reduce the reserved quantity. If the shipment status is C or X, the line is protected.
|
If the shipment status is R, you can change both the promised ship date and reserved quantity. If the shipment status is C or X, the line is protected.

Considerations
Because of various conditions, some sales order lines cannot be maintained through multi-line inventory reservation. These sales order lines include:
· Remote sourced lines that have purchase orders generated.
· Lines containing bundle components.
· Lines containing configured parts.
· Orders in use.
· Orders with a hold code that does not allow inventory reservation.
· Lines with a subsequent release quantity greater than zero.
· Child releases with a confirmed shipment status (C or X).
