Screen Generation Rule
Screen Generation Rule
The screen generation rule defines all the information required to generate an option select screen.

Considerations
Expressions for a screen generation rule are not used in the same way they are for standard rules. A screen rule definition screen is used in place of a condition and expression detail screen. There is no condition statement for a screen rule. If a screen rule is dependent on a condition, a condition rule must be defined to release the screen rule.
All information required to generate an option select screen is entered from the screen rule definition screen is explained in the screen section of this manual; Screen Rule Maintenance - Detail (EC100S04).
Add a Screen Generation Rule
1. Display the Rules Maintenance Function Select screen.
a. Select the Expert Configurator option from the System Application Menu.
b. Select the Sales Order Entry Maintenance option from the Expert Configurator Application Menu to display the select screen.
2. Add a screen generation rule.
a. Assign a unique number to the rule.
b. Enter the action code for a screen generation rule in the Action Code field. Action codes are defined in category Y03 on the Reference File.
c. Enter a 1 (addition) in the Maintenance Code field.
d. Press the Enter key to display the header screen.
e. Enter the header information.
3. Enter the part number this rule applies to. Must be a valid part on the Part Master Field, a group number preceded by an asterisk (*), a subgroup number preceded by an asterisk (*), or *ALL.
4. Enter the version number this rule is associated with in the Version Number field.
5. Enter and center the title of the screen in the Screen Title field.
6. Enter the releasing rule and result in the Releasing Rule and Releasing Rule Result fields.

a. Press the Enter key to display the detail screen. Fields are defined one line at a time. Perform steps 1 through 7 for each option to appear on the option select screen.
(1) Enter the sequence the options are to appear on the option select screen.
(2) Enter the name of the option in the Option field.
(3) Enter the option description that will appear on the option select screen.
(4) The OPTDEF (Option definition) field has three separate fields.
· Enter the number of characters in the input field in the first two spaces in the OPTDEF field. A value must be entered. An input field may be up to 15 characters long for alphanumeric, and 14.6 for numeric.
· If the option is numeric, enter the number of decimal places to the right of the decimal in the input field in the next space. If the option is not numeric, leave the third space blank.
· Enter an A (Alphanumeric) or an N (Numeric) to specify whether the option is numeric or alphanumeric. Either an A or an N must be entered.
(5) Enter a default value to appear in the input field. If no default is used, leave the Default Value field blank.
(6) Enter a Reference File category to validate the input field against. (Optional) If entered, must be a valid category on the Reference File with at least one record defined. Only Reference File category key values will be used for validation, not data.
(7) Enter the type of validation for the input field. (Optional) Valid values are:
· M - The field is mandatory and must be entered.
· R - The field is a required yes/no field, and Y or N are the only valid entries.
If the type field is left blank, the input field is considered optional.
(8) Enter the Global Variable and the External Program information.
(9) After all the option lines have been entered, press the Enter key to add this screen generation rule to the Rule Master File.
Change a Screen Generation Rule
1. Select the Sales Order Rule Maintenance option from the Expert Configurator Application Menu to display the select screen.
2. On the Sales Order Rule Function Select screen:
a. Enter the screen generation rule number in the Rule Number field.
b. Enter a 2 in the Maintenance Code field to change the header information for the rule. Enter a 3 in the Maintenance Code field to change the detail information for the rule.
3. Change the descriptive data for the rule and press the Enter key.
4. If all fields are valid, the rule is changed on the Rule Master File.
Reactivate or Deactivate a Screen Generation Rule
1. Select the Sales Order Rule Maintenance Option from the Expert Configurator Application Menu to display the select screen.
2. On the Sales Order Rule Maintenance Function Select Screen:
a. Enter the screen generation rule number in the Rule Number field. All rules released by this rule must be deactivated before this rule can be deactivated.
b. Enter a 4 in the Maintenance Code field to deactivate the rule. Enter a 5 in the Maintenance Code field to reactivate the rule.
3. Press the Enter key to deactivate or reactivate the rule.
4. Press F3 to exit without deactivating or reactivating the rule.
