Configured Component Rule

The configured component rule is used to specify that a lower level component will be configured (a configured manufacturing order or requisition is created for a lower level component of the sales order line item).  This rule initiates multi-level, multi-plant configuration.

For the same configured part, a configured component rule cannot be issued after a purchase part rule.

Identification

System Identifier:          14

Valid Rule Categories:   Sales Order Entry

Action Expression 1

Description:                  Part number

Expression Type:          Syntax

Length:                         320

Interpreted Type:           Alphanumeric

Note:                            This part must be on the Part Master File.  It must be defined as a manufactured or build thru part in the plant identified in Action Expression 2.  If the plant in Action Expression 2 differs from the plant for the rule, then this part must be defined as a transfer part in the rule's plant.

Action Expression 2

Description:                  Plant

Expression Type:          Syntax

Length:                         320

Interpreted Type:           Alphanumeric

Note:                            Must be a valid plant

Add a Configured Component Rule

1.   Display the Sales Order Rules Maintenance Function Select screen.

a.   Select the Expert Configurator option from the System Application Menu.

b.   Select the Sales Order Rules Maintenance option from the Expert Configurator Application Menu to display the select screen.

2.   Enter the Function Select information.

a.   Assign a unique number to the rule.

b.   Enter the action code for a component requirement rule in the Action Code field.  Action codes are defined in category Y03 on the Reference File.

c.   Enter a 1 (addition) in the Maintenance Code field.

d.   Press the Enter key to display the header screen.

3.   Enter the header information.

a.   Enter the parent part number associated with this rule.

b.   Enter the version number of the rule, the appropriate releasing rule number, and the releasing rule result.

4.   Enter the detail information.

a.   Enter the condition statement.  (Optional)

The condition determines if the rule result is true or false.  If the condition expression is interpreted as true, the action expressions are processed.  Rules are released based on the result of the condition.  If no condition is entered, the condition is interpreted as true.  Many configured component rules will have identical conditions, because they will depend only on the fact that the item has been ordered.  In this case, the most efficient route is to define a condition rule.  Make this condition rule the releasing rule for all the configured component rules that do not have special circumstances, such as add-on pieces to the main part.  The condition rule that would release the configured component rules does not need to have a condition statement:  it will be automatically interpreted as true, and the configured component rules will be released.

Other configured component rules require condition statements.  These are the configured component rules that correspond to special options or add-on pieces to the main configured part.  For example, if a desk with a special computer table was ordered, the configured component rule responsible for initiating configured component processing for the computer table would have a condition statement.  It would be:  (O-TABLE,EQ,"Y"), assuming the user-defined option select screen contained a yes or no field for TABLE.  If this condition is met, (if the clerk entered an order requesting a table) the configured component part and quantity fields will be processed.

5.   Enter the sequence and part numbers.  (Required)

Enter the sequence number of the part (defaults to 01).  The sequence number is used to specify which variation of the part is to be processed.  In some manufacturing environments, one parent may require several variations of the same part, and the sequence number is used to identify which variation will be used.  The sequence number must be entered literally.

Enter the part number of the component part to be processed.  The part number is interpreted by the Expert Configurator and must be in correct syntax.  Enter or calculate the part number, within quotation marks, as it exists in the Part Master File.  See Rule Syntax in the key concepts section of the Overview for more information.

6.   Enter the plant.  (Required)

Enter the plant code of the configured component.  This is the plant where the configured component part is to be manufactured.  The field defaults to the plant field for the rule.  This field is interpreted by the Expert Configurator and must be in correct syntax.  The result of this interpretation must be a valid manufacturing plant.

Change a Configured Component Rule

1.   Select the Sales Order Rule Maintenance option from the Expert Configurator Application Menu to display the select screen.

2.   On the Sales Order Rule Maintenance Function Select screen:

a.   Enter the configured component rule number in the Rule Number field.

b.   Enter a 2 in the Maintenance Code field to change the header information for the rule.  Enter a 3 in the Maintenance code field to change the detail information for the configured component rule.

3.   Change the descriptive date for the configured component rule and press the Enter key.

4.   If all fields are valid, the rule is changed on the Rule Master File.

Reactivate or Deactivate a Component Rule

1.   Select the Sales Order Rule Maintenance option on the Expert Configurator Application Menu.

2.   On the Sales Order Rule Maintenance Function Select screen:

a.   Enter the configured component rule number in the Rule Number field.  All rules released by this rule must be deactivated before this rule can be deactivated.

b.   Enter a 4 in the Maintenance Code field to deactivate the configured component rule.  Enter a 5 in the Maintenance Code field to reactivate the configured component rule.

3.   Press the Enter key to deactivate or reactivate the rule.

4.         Press F3 to exit without deactivating or reactivating the rule.
